He has proven to be a successful leader of information technology teams with extensive experience in the strategic application of technology as a means to enhance business operations in the healthcare space. He has a proven track record of developing and leading high-performance IT Applications, Infrastructure, and Support teams; having led multiple organizational IT transformations by driving rigorous standards to achieve excellence. Jason is a skilled Program/Project Manager with a successful background leading IT Programs, Projects and other Project Managers; delivering projects that drive organizational growth by linking business and IT strategies.
In his first 18 months as IT Director of the Benaroya Research Institute Jason led many high-impact projects that have driven significant technology changes to meet the ever-increasing demands of technology-dependent research. Under his leadership the IT team has transformed the technology infrastructure while driving down operating costs. His team fundamentally understands that their mission is to improve organizational processes, operations, and outcomes—not simply focus on the technology solutions. An example of Jason’s commitment of push IT as a means to improve business process is a recent project where his applications team partnered with the BRI Clinical Research Program to fully reengineer their business processes through the application of SharePoint workflow technology.
Prior to joining Benaroya Research Institute, Jason directed all technology matters for the largest Department of Medicine of in the country at the University of Washington—a department with an annual budget of approximately $317 million, 10 sites, and roughly 2,500 faculty and staff. He and his team architected and engineered existing systems to scale from one division to twelve divisions, onboarding up to 45 users per month. While operating a highly successful cost center with P/L responsibilities using a hybrid of the IT Chargeback and Corporate Funding models, his teams continually achieved customer support and systems Service Level Agreements . Jason architected the IT chargeback model that funded this consolidation and resulted in a steady decline of IT costs for the cost-center host organization. He had previously led the Division of Gastroenterology, within the UW Department of Medicine, where he had been IT Manager for five years.
Jason earned his B.A. in Business Administration with a Major in Management Information Systems from Washington State University and is near completion of his Master of Science in Information Systems Management and M.B.A. at Seattle Pacific University. In addition to his academic degrees, he holds industry certifications including Project Management Professional (PMP), Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITILv3.0 Foundation), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator: Messaging (MCSA Messaging), and Security+.
