Overview

The ITN utilizes two Core facilities for RNA isolation. These Cores perform Total RNA isolation from blood using Applied Biosystems (ABI) 6100 Nucleic Acid Prep Station. This technology allows us to generate a high quality RNA for future use in gene expression and profiling. The RNA isolation process consists of RNA isolation, DNase treatment, washing, and elution and is followed by RNA concentration and quality assessment.

All RNA samples are under strict ITN quality control rules to maximize the quality and quantity of the final product. Specific standard operating procedures have been development to be used across the two facilities. Total throughput for each Core is 300-320 sample tubes per month. ITN continues working with outside vendors to improve this process and increase the number of samples that can be processed per month. Blood is collected into an ABI TempusT Collection Tube (blue top).
