Larry and Debs would like you to join them in giving a warm welcome to Michael Howell, PhD, who is starting today as the Senior Director of Biomarker and Discovery Research.
Reporting directly to Debs, Michael will be responsible for the day to day work of the BDR biology team with Drs. Sachin Malhotra and Sudeepta Aggarwal reporting to him. In addition, he will immediately take on the role of lead internal biologist for all the trials in ITN’s autoimmune portfolio. Gaining Michael’s expertise is perfect timing as ITN begins its work on a new psoriasis trial with Dr. Jim Kreuger, and a lupus nephritis trial with Drs. Betty Diamond & David Wofsy.
Michael comes to the ITN from Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals where he served as Principal Scientist managing a group of scientists performing in vivo efficacy, target validation and biomarker research in inflammatory diseases. He also managed exploratory portfolio projects and provided strategic evaluations as part of a discovery team. Michael received his doctorate from West Virginia University and has more than ten years of pharmaceutical, academic and post-doctoral experience in allergic and inflammatory diseases. As a seasoned designer and director of proof-of-concept model development and studies for target validation and biomarker discovery, Michael is truly a valuable addition to BDR and as Debs half-jests “we are going to keep him very busy.”
