The ITN and BRI IT departments recently completed federation between our Exchange email and Lync communication servers. There are two main benefits to this.
The first is that you can now see free/busy availability on calendars of BRI staff for which you have a contact. This will greatly aid in inter-org meeting scheduling. To see how this works, in your Outlook, select to create a New Meeting, add required BRI and ITN staff to the list of invitees, and then click the Scheduling Assistant to see openings in availability to aid in selecting the best time for a meeting:
The second benefit is that our Lync servers allow messaging between ITN and BRI staff (as well as screen sharing, videocalling, and other Lync features). To take advantage of this, you’ll first have to add the BRI person to your Lync contacts typing their BRI email address and clicking on the “+” to pin them to your frequent contacts or other configured groups (see screenshot below). Once that person at BRI accepts the connection, you will be able to communicate with them using Lync.
