Peanut Allergy Development

December 16, 2025

Using data from the ITN LEAP (Learning Early About Peanut Allergy) study and two other clinical trials, the kinetics of peanut allergy (PA) development and resolution were examined, for which there had previously been limited data. In a recent JACI article, which was highlighted in “The Editors’ Choice” section, the authors demonstrated that over 30% of infants who developed PA during their first year outgrew it over the course of the trial, which was a higher resolution rate than previously believed. Resolution was higher in infants who did not have eczema and egg allergy and had low peanut-specific IgE compared to those infants whose allergy persisted. These results show that there are different phenotypes of peanut allergy with different biomarkers that ultimately have different disease trajectories.
